A FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) test to detect occult (hidden) blood in stool samples. Blood in stool can be an early sign of bowel cancer or other conditions such as polyps.
Who is this test for?
Average Risk Individuals
Aged 45 and older: regular screening is recommended for those aged 45 and above as part of routine colorectal cancer screening.
Individuals with Increased Risk
- Family History: those with a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps, particularly if a first-degree relative was diagnosed before age 50.
- Personal History: individuals who have had colorectal polyps, colorectal cancer, or inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis).
Symptomatic Individuals
Gastrointestinal Symptoms: those experiencing symptoms such as unexplained abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, or unexplained weight loss may be recommended to undergo the test as part of a broader diagnostic approach.
